Summer is Here!
Hi all,
I hope you are all looking forward to a fun and fabulous, safe and sound, bright and breezy summer – and to getting all the fingers back into full flight for some live harpy gatherings in the flesh! I am particularly looking forward to sitting and chatting, and playing music socially with live, living, and breathing friends and colleagues – in the same space!!! Skype and Zoom etc have proved to be unexpectedly wonderful and I have developed an amazingly diverse teaching practice which has kept me sane and joyfully engaged over these last months. Every teaching day, I still marvel at the countries I ‘visit’ – between Tasmania, China, Oregon, Dublin and Galway in a single morning! But, I’m sure all will agree, that there’s nothing to beat the ‘live experience’ of ‘being’ in the real presence of folk without constraint or concern. So, on with the season, the healing and the music - and I wish you all joy in reconnecting with your friends and families as soon as is safe.
My summer kicked off with an amazing adventure to the Isle of Barra in the Hebrides. I travelled for a one-day workshop but gave myself a week to wander by the sea, rocks, mountains and air – and I swam with seals on my final day! What a blessing and great thanks to Feis Bharraigh, to Lisa, Teresa and Dr. Henry for organising everything, to the wonderful community of the islands and the children I had a lot of fun with. Thank you! I look forward enormously to returning.
And here’s what's more in our summer schedule this year..
My ‘Mid-Summer Weekend’ at the Harp Studio here in Warwick on June 19-20 is going ahead! (Some spaces are still available - see below for details);
And from August 2-8, I return to the great UK Summer School at Marlborough College, offering 2 courses in the same week:
The Harp of the British Isles for players with some experience, and Celtic Harp for Beginners. Both of these courses are also open to teachers. See below for more details.
My Glencolmcille courses in Donegal, Ireland are cancelled for a second year – but I can confirm that the dates for 2022 will be:
June 07 – 14
June 14 – 21
(Arr. and dep. Tuesdays)
Accommodation is in ‘Ionad Siuil – the Walker’s Centre’ and the format of the courses follows as before – lots of everything: good food, fun, sessions and Donegal sea air!
Teachers welcome on week 2 again for specialised training. More information to come on these courses. Please email me to register your interest.
Finally, as I now have my full technical team in place for the production, I can announce an extension to the deadline for the video submissions for the Colmcille suite to October 31st 2021.
A big Thank You all for the wonderful feedback on the rehearsal videos and other supporting materials. Comments included: “fantastic project!”, "the videos are perfect and helpful beyond words”, “a game-changer”, “great confidence builder”, “delighted to be included in this dynamic project”, “such a spiritual refreshing”.
