Weekend: JUNE 22 - 23 for ALL AGES *NEW*
Week 1: JUNE 30 - JULY 6 Adults Only!  ONE PLACE REMAINING
Week 2: JULY 6/7 - 13 Players and Teachers  4 PLACES LEF.T

Located in the Fairgreen Holiday Cottages in the Donegal town of Dungloe, beside the sea and surrounded by the best of rugged Irish landscape (close by Mount Errigal, Donegal's highest mountain), Janet presents a weekend and two full weeks of Summer Schools for all levels of harp player - come for one or come for all.

Weekend June 22 - 23 for Anyone and Everyone (All Standards!)
This weekend is primarily intended for local players and accommodation is not offered by the school - but, of course can be booked separately directly with the Fairgreen Holiday Cottages management.   Harps are available - first come, first served!
Saturday and Sunday Mornings (10.30 - 1pm) are for YOUNG PEOPLE but Adult beginners are welcome to join us!
Saturday and Sunday afternoons (2 - 5pm) are for ADULTS with fun guaranteed to stretch through Saturday evening....
Fees: For young and teens: €20 for Saturday, €30 for both days.  For adults: €40 for Saturday and €50 for both days

Week 1: June 30 - July 6, is for ADULT PLAYERS (all standards).
This first week is a regular summer-school for players over the age of 18 featuring all you would expect in the format of  previous years: daily tuition in large and small groups, workshops, lectures, concerts, sessions and local trips out - in a full programme of activity focused on positive harping and confidence building.  Make significant progress in all your playing skills while making great music and social connections!

Week 2: June 6/7 - 13 is for PLAYERS (all standards) and TEACHERS
PLAYERS arrive Sunday July 7th and join us for supper at 7pm (or stay over from Week 1 at no extra cost for Saturday 6th accommodation).
TEACHERS arrive Saturday 6th or Sunday morning 7th for an 11am start on Sunday for the Teacher's course

The course starts at 10am on Monday 8th with accommodation from Sunday 7th.  But for those staying over from Week 1, in-between-courses-day (Saturday 6th) accommodation is free.
This course and time-table is similar to Week 1, but open also to teenagers, and with the course for teachers running alongside the summer school, all students are guaranteed lots of teacher attention!  Young students are also welcome on this course for just the morning classes (from 10am-1pm).  Everyone is invited to join in the evening time activities - including the 'teachers' concert' on Wednesday, the 'big quiz' on Thursday evening and the 'finale night' on Friday with the big session at Húdí Beag's into the small hours (with a bus arranged to ferry us home).  Whichever you are: student or teacher, we guarantee that everyone will get a great week's training, a wild Donegal experience and a whole new community of forever harp-friends.  Another bonus for adult students staying over from Week 1, is a free night's accommodation on the Saturday night in-between the courses (6th).

This course starts at 11am on Sunday morning, July 6th with a day of theory and practise for present and future oral TEACHERS.  (Difference between oral and aural? Teachers deliver learning 'orally' and students learn 'aurally').   Janet has pioneered traditional learning through 5 decades of enormous social and cultural change with our new age of technology.  At first, 95% of Janet's students came from a 'traditional' background of music-making.  Nowadays, just 5% come from a 'traditional' background as the world has become more 'worldly'.  But, the tide is definately turning and there has been a tremendous upsurge and re-evaluation fo traditional music skills.  This development requires ever more skilled teachers to help shape the next generations of players.  Music has been proven to be a healthy asset in many ways - and to 'keep it creative' and social as we do with traditional music, it will help us save the world!  So, whether you already teach or not, this course will empower you, hone your leadership skills, equip you with relevant repertoire, build confidence and competence in tutoring, as well as enhance your own traditional style, creative arrangement, tune accompaniment, social and ensemble playing skills.

 Our Course Venue

On the Wild Atlantic Way (coast) and just a few minutes walk from the centre of the town of Dungloe, our summer school venue is in the Fairgreen Cottages Complex - located beside the Waterfront Hotel (with a spa and health centre!).   We have a range of 2-bedroomed and 4-bedroomed cottages - all with twin or double beds (which can also be booked for single occupation).  The 2-bedroomed cottages share a bathroom – and 4-bedroomed cottages have all rooms ensuite. Each cottage also has its own sitting room and fully equipped kitchen (so people can choose how they wish to have their evening meals - cooking in or out!).  We expect that we will have some of the houses 'hosting' evenings (party nights!) ........

Afternoon Options

For walks, swims, exploring, shopping, relaxing, practising!  Dungloe is a typical Donegal town with lots to offer.  We are also closely located to Mount Errigal, Donegal's most spectacular mountain that is a favourite for climbers (mid level) and are close to the Glenveigh National Park which is a preserved area of natural beauty and nature conservation.

Included in our Wednesday afternoon trip is a boat trip to the wild Gola Island (weather permitting).  The island is now deserted but a very special place much celebrated in Donegal songs.

Recommended Travel Arrangements

Fly into Dublin Airport, and take another flight from Dublin airport to Donegal with Aer Lingus. This takes 35 minutes and costs €40 and there are just 2 flights every day at 11.40 and 18.50hrs. The airport is just a short drive from our Centre and we will pick you up.   Alternatively, you may take the Bus Eireann bus from Busarus (Dublin central) or Dublin Airport to Donegal.  Change to the Dungloe bus (5 hours in all) or hire a car and drive!  Your destination is the Fairgreen Holiday Cottages, Dungloe, County Donegal, Ireland.
