Summer Harp Weeks 2017

Janet based her Summer Harp Weeks at the Boghill Centre, at the heart of the Burren, County Clare In a World Heritage Nature Reserve & Geopark.

With each of the 4 differently themed weeks, participants at all standards, ages and abilities could hone their choices from the Summer Weeks Programme – all progressing their individual playing skills (with group and one-on-one teaching, ‘Technique Clinics’, ‘Easy Ear Training’, ‘On Ornamentation and Variation’, ‘Exploring Repertoires’) and also building ease and confidence in informal group playing (as in participating in a traditional ‘Session’) and in stagecraft and formal performance in the final week with the ‘real, live concert experience’!  Teachers were also catered for in two of the weeks: the first which offered an introduction to ‘oral training’ and the second getting ‘stuck in’ with exploring the necessary skills and repertoire for effective oral teaching and leading.

Each week also featured a programme of visiting nearby scenic spots (including the Cliffs of Moher, ancient Stone Circles and dolmens) and Dunguaire Castle, local festival concerts (including the Willie Clancy Week), villages, sessions and ceilís (with set dancing!) with valuable performing experience alongside Janet herself.

Janet's Summer Schools offer an invigorating harping experience “away from it all” - don't miss the next one!

What the participants thought:

‘I have just experienced four incredible weeks of total immersion harp studies.  Honestly, I absolutely loved every minute of it and I’d do it all again in a heartbeat.  I was exposed to wonderful stories of Irish history, amazing music, fabulous people, an incredible venue with excellent cuisine and your thoughtful curriculum complete with teachers on your team who are second to none.  Thank you Janet, and thanks to everyone for your contributions towards this magnificent learning experience.  You’re all forever in my heart.’
Connie C, Okanagen Falls, BC

‘Janet, you’re my champion – Grainne H and Cormac DeB both said I would do great with you, and I did!  Loved my 3 weeks with you this year as well as my week last year.  Coming back again next year for sure!’
Hank H, Arkansas, USA

This was my second time and worth every inch of the distance.  I’m taking a life-ful of teaching skills home with me as well as great music and memories’
Christine Morphett, Adelaide, Australia

‘What a great harp week.  Tanja got a lot from it and we’ll be back…’
