Week 2: JUNE 8 - 14 Adults, Teens & Teachers

Week 3: JULY 6 - 12 Adults Only!

 Week 2: JULY 13 - 19 Adults, Teens & Teachers

Located in the Fairgreen Holiday Cottages in the Donegal town of Dungloe, close to the sea and surrounded by the best of rugged Irish landscape (close by Mount Errigal, Donegal's highest mountain), Janet presents two weeks of Summer Schools for all levels of harp player - come for one or come for both!

Weeks 1 & 3 for ADULTS ONLY (All Standards).
This first week is a regular summer-school for players over the age of 18 featuring a week of training, fun and friendship on the magnificent Donegall coast and town of Dungloe.  The focus is on 'social playing' where everybody is included without pressure or stress.  The more novice players just play less notes (!) and the detail is added as you advance your skills.  Daily tuition is given in large and small groups, workshops, lectures, concerts, sessions and local trips out - in a full programme of group oral training with exceptional interaction with music and local musicians.

What's included with the courses:
Your summer school training, all the concerts, lectures etc. and a training book of tunes covered
Your lunches (for all foody needs - vegans and vegetarians included)
Your mid-week trip out

What's included with your accommodation:
Your bedrooms, all en suite in a cottage with self-catering facilities, sitting room and TV
Your breakfast needs at the start of the week (There's a trip out to local supermarkets on Monday for you to shop any extra provisions).

Weeks 2 & 4

PLAYERS arrive Sunday July 13th and join us for supper at 8.30pm (or stay over from Week 1 at no extra cost for Saturday 6th accommodation).
TEACHERS arrive Saturday 12th or Sunday morning 13th for an 11am Sunday morning start for the Teacher's course.

The ADULTS & TEENS training weeks:
The course starts at 9.30am on Monday 14th with accommodation from Sunday 13th.  But for those staying over from Week 1, in-between-courses-day (Saturday 12th) accommodation is free.
This course and time-table is similar to Week 1, but open also to teenagers, and with the course for teachers running alongside the summer school, all students are guaranteed lots of teacher attention!  Teen students are also welcome on this course.  Everyone is invited to join in the evening activities - and there is something on every night...  Whichever you are: student or teacher, we guarantee that everyone will get a great week's training, a wild Donegal experience and a whole new community of forever harp-friends.  A bonus for adult students staying over from Week 1, is a free night's accommodation on the Saturday night in-between the courses (6th).

The TEACHERS' training courses...
This course starts at 11am on Sunday morning, July 13th with a day of theory and practise for present and future oral TEACHERS.  (Difference between oral and aural? Teachers deliver learning 'orally' and students learn 'aurally').   Janet has pioneered traditional learning through 5 decades of enormous social and cultural change with our new age of technology.  Teachers!  This course will empower you, hone your leadership skills, equip you with relevant repertoire, build confidence and competence in tutoring, as well as enhance your own traditional style, creative arranging, tune accompaniment, social and ensemble playing skills.

Same inclusions as for Weeks 1 & 3

Our Course Venue

On the Wild Atlantic Way (coast) and just 5 minutes walk from Dungloe town centre, our summer school venue is in the Fairgreen Holiday Cottages village - close to the famous Waterfront Hotel.   All rooms are ensuite with twin or double beds (which are also booked for single occupation).  All cottages have sitting rooms and fully equipped kitchens (so people can choose how they wish to have their evening meals - cooking in or eating out!) Lunches are provided with the courses.  (Local children on weeks 2 & 4 are invited to bring packed lunches.)

Afternoon Options

For walks, swims, exploring, shopping, relaxing, practising - Dungloe is a wonderful Donegal town with lots to offer.  Closely located to Mount Errigal and the Glenveagh National Park, Donegal's most spectacular mountain surrounded by an exceptional area of natural beauty and nature conservation, and there is a superb range of walks for everone from seasoned hikers to leisurely wanderers.  On Wednesday, we have an afternoon off to take a boat trip to the island of Arranmore with dolphin and whale spotting with seabirds and sandy beaches.
