The Wild Geese
The Wild Geese
Harp Solo
Level 4 - Historical Air
One of the great harp compositions of the 1690s, this piece is a lamentation for the 20,000 Irish fighting men that had supported the Jacobite King James defeated by King William III in a series of battles (at Carrickfergus, Derry, the Boyne, Aughrim and finally Limerick in 1690) and were sent into exile without their women and children.
In the 3rd part, you can hear the wailing of the women and the echoes of their cries… A powerful and sombre piece.
