O'Neill's Cavalcade & The Chase

Traditional Irish Dance Tune

for Irish / Celtic / Lever Harp

at Level 3 (High Intermediate)

Arranged Janet Harbison

O’Neill’s Cavalcade, or ‘Marcshlua Ui Neill’ in Irish, is an ancient military march from the O’Neill clan of Ulster (Northern Ireland). It is unique in its form, with a first part, a ‘bridge’ and a second.

Made popular by the Chieftains in the 1970s, and it is from the Chieftains’ recording that I was inspired to play this great tune. It is in ‘jig’ time (6/8) as are all old jigs, and should be played with vigour and ‘bullishness’!

The Chase is a second tune by myself to complement the first – played afterwards, with a ‘fanfare’ at the start and finish of the set.
